A summary of services

Retail and Commercial
We undertake a wide variety of retail and commercial works. Projects include the design of retail stores, shopping and office complexes, industrial warehousing and manufacturing buildings. These projects include both new developments and refurbishment of existing premises.

Refurbishment
With the emphasis nowadays on conservation we have gained much experience on the refurbishment of inner city Victorian buildings. However, it is now recognised that pre and post war buildings can be transformed to provide the modern image and facilities required of businesses today at a considerable saving over new build costs. Projects we have worked on include the upgrading of high rise buildings in Liverpool, Birmingham, Glasgow and Manchester. This work is usually preceded by a detailed structural appraisal of these buildings which can include large panels systems.

Industrial
Heavy and temperature controlled warehousing, workshops and factory units require economic design by the structural engineer. Projects undertaken include two cold stores and a plant hire depot in Avonmouth, a transport workshop in Torquay, and factory units in and around Bristol. We have been involved in brewery and dairy work and the installation of large items of plant.

Residential
Our involvement in housing includes the structural design of new build flats, sheltered accommodation for housing corporations and individual architect designed dwellings. We also provide foundation designs for difficult sites and design roads and drainage schemes for new developments. In the last twenty years we have become increasingly involved with the works necessary to arrest subsidence of buildings. These projects usually involve us working with insurance companies and loss adjusters. The company has worked under delegated authority as a panel engineer for a national insurance company.

High Rise Structures
Working closely with steeplejacks we have undertaken work in UK and European oil refineries and power stations on the maintenance of industrial chimney stacks. This work includes extensive concrete repairs, the design of reinforced refractory brickwork, and the installation of steel liners into existing stacks. Cooling towers and stacks can be surveyed for concrete degeneration and we have designed specialist steel cladding to cap concrete silos. New stacks have been designed and built in Europe, the Middle East and Far East.

Report and Advisory Work
The Company has become increasingly involved in technical report and litigation work and we have engineers who act a experts under the civil procedure rules. We also undertake the role of Planning Supervisor under the 1994 Construction Design and Management Regulations and party wall surveyor in accordance with the Party Wall Act 1996. The implications of insurance claims for subsidence on residential properties has prompted the need for structural engineers' reports on many residential properties as a condition for mortgage. These reports are prepared at a reasonable charge in a clear English format.
